The Brief:
The client sought packaging for their unique millet-based ice cream, blending traditional South Indian flavors with a modern treat. The challenge was to highlight the millet story while ensuring the design stood out in a competitive market.
The Idea:
We aimed to celebrate South Indian culture through a contemporary and globally appealing design. By illustrating everyday South Indian characters—a man with a mustache, a woman with a bindi and nose stud—we created a visual identity that exudes charm and authenticity. This culturally rooted approach was complemented by a sleek, international flat-illustration style to ensure the packaging resonates beyond local markets.
The Execution:
The design draws inspiration from South Indian saree patterns and temple sculptures, using bold, contrasting colors to evoke vibrancy and recall value. Subtle cultural cues, like millet grains and earthen pots, emphasize the product’s unique proposition, while crisp messaging like “Made with Millets” ensures clarity. The packaging seamlessly adapts across formats—cone, bar, and pot kulfi—creating a cohesive identity that is vibrant, memorable, and rooted in tradition while feeling refreshingly modern.
The Result:
Nana Millet Ice Cream’s packaging is a perfect blend of heritage and innovation, standing out on shelves and connecting with both domestic and international audiences. It’s more than packaging—it’s a celebration of culture reimagined.
