Spring in Japan heralds a symphony of colour and life as fragile blossoms burst into bloom. As soon as it appears, it begins to pass, intangible and impermanent. As the breeze creates a shower of delicate petals, this rare moment is at its most treasured even as it fades, illuminated by the light of the moon.
The latest in Glenfiddich’s Grand series range, Grand Yozakura celebrates this moment of ephemeral beauty in a liquid finished in Awamori casks. Another fleeting and exquisite rarity, the rice spirit Awamori from Okinawa is indelible in its memory, transformed after aging in oak. It’s for this reason after aging for 29 years, Glenfiddich Grand Yozakura is finished in rare Awamori casks, to give an unforgettable taste.
Here Design’s latest work for Glenfiddich brings to life the magic of Spring in Japan through the packaging design for Grand Yozakura. Inspired by more minimalist and contemporary forms representing the falling sakura petals Here has designed a beautiful casing to showcase Glenfiddich’s latest liquid in their Grand series.
Awamori is made using long grain indica rice and traditionally stored in clay pots and matured in oak casks. It is said that the technique for making the spirit has not been altered in over 500 years. Only a small proportion of Awamori is aged in oak casks making them exceptionally rare. Grand Yozakura celebrates Hanami – the “cherry blossom festival”, where Japan appreciates the temporal beauty of nature through the sakura. A time for renewal and optimism, the festival is best experienced illuminated after dark where it is known as the Yozakura or ‘night sakura’. This fleeting moment captures a time where nature is honoured and this marriage of rare liquids, once gone, will never be replicated presenting a transient chance to experience a beautiful collision of cultures and flavours.
