Temperance, Courage, and Transcendence turned into a packaging designed, inspired by Hispanic culture. With bold and contrasting colors paired with interactive imagery and typography, these virtues create a playful scene for the viewer. I am Abigail Gomez-Aguilar, a junior who is currently studying Graphic Design at Ball State University. As a Mexican-American Woman, I pride myself in creating designs that can represent my culture while simultaneously staying true to my love for bold colors. This Virtue Project asked us to create three packaging designs that were inspired by the three logos we created. I chose Temperance for the seltzer can, Justice for a salsa verde jar, and Transcendence for a pan de muerto pastry box.

When creating these designs I wanted to incorporate the use of highly contrasting colors and interactive typography. When it came to the seltzer can I added movement to the typography and incorporated the splash to move in and out of the letters. It makes a dynamic scene and draws in the viewer. The same thought process was given to the salsa verde jar, creating overlapping typography onto the imagery to symbolize the flavors mixed, all while staying legible. The magenta color for this specific design is called “Rosa Mexicano” which is a shade of pink that has a history in Mexico and is typically paired with that shade of green. Therefore, I found it the perfect choice. Finally, the pan de muerto pastry box has the imagery of a pan de muerto slightly overlapping the typography. This type of bread is very recognizable in Mexico so I wanted to emphasize it with the use of the lines going around the image as a whole.

Overall, these designs were carefully curated and made to draw in people who want to delve into the food world of Mexican cuisine.
