Kick Propels Niche Brand into Mainstream Market with Strategic Rebrand
Minneapolis, Minnesota, January 29, 2024 — Minneapolis-based strategic creative agency Kick recently teamed up with LonoLife, an Ohio-based company devoted to nutrition and convenience, to breathe new life into the LonoLife brand. Together, Kick and LonoLife pushed this rebranding effort beyond just a visual update, taking a bold step forward in sharing LonoLife’s mission to make better-for-you eating easier and tastier for even more health-conscious consumers.
LonoLife strives to deliver high quality bone broth that is nutritionally dense and delicious in an easy-to-consume format. The task for Kick was to craft a packaging design that would visually communicate these key points, while standing out in a sea of strong competitors on the shelf to become the market’s top sipping broth. Leveraging eye-catching creative and consumer research, Kick produced a design that encapsulated LonoLife’s unique commitment and broadened its appeal, successfully propelling LonoLife from a niche offering into the mainstream market.
“From the start, we challenged LonoLife to get out of their comfort zone and go beyond the conventional,” says Stefan Hartung, Executive Creative Director and co-founder of Kick. “The result of our collaborative work is a fresh package and expanded identity elements that stand out with their unique personality, distinct creative and authentic story. That’s reflected not just in the packaging, but in a whole toolbox of brand assets that LonoLife can extend beyond the physical shelf to a variety of formats and media.”
“Growing from a niche specialty product with devoted followers to a mainstream brand means that every step forward needs to be strategic,” states Mary Kemp, co-founder of Kick. “Consumer research was key in making sure the new brand direction appealed to new customers and strengthened the connection LonoLife has with their loyal customer base. It’s been an exciting process, and we’re thrilled by the early response they’ve received.”
From the time of launch in October 2023, the LonoLife rebrand has yielded phenomenal results. In the first month following the rebrand launch, sales at a major grocery chain jumped by 320%. Production demand grew from making 300,000 sticks every 5 weeks to 1.8 million sticks in the same time frame. Even better, LonoLife expects to make 2.1 million sticks in the next 5 weeks. The strengthened appeal has reached online as well, with Amazon sales up 35% over last year.
“The feedback on our rebrand has been beyond amazing. We signed up 500 new stores in a day because of the package updates,” shares Brian Hoppe, co-partner at LonoLife. “Kick listened to us, translated our comments, and then built the visual story behind what they heard. This is a giant step forward into better sharing our story, and sets us up to inspire a new vision of wellness.”
