DESIGN

Zesta is a single-material chestnut roaster whose ideation orbits around the universe of Eduardo Chillida on the centenary of his birth in 2024. This attribute adds value being the result of the synergy between traditional Basque objects, artisanal crafts and industrial design. In short, it is a functional element that highlights design and heritage and is in line with SDG 12 > Responsible Consumption and Production.

INNOVATION

The backbone element of Zesta are the strong hallmarks of Chillida’s legacy, resulting in a characteristic volumetry. Its anatomy persuades and surrounds the design with an iconic aura. This product takes its name from the zesta punta, a sports modality of Basque origin. The xistera is an iconic object whose structure is made of chestnut wood. Fruit and tree are linked to Zesta through their verbal identity, thus enhancing their Basque roots.

SUSTAINABILITY

Zesta uses proximity trade from local artisans. The color of the raw material, refractory clay obtained from Basque deposits, varies according to its internal composition, dispensing with enamels. This material offers great resistance to high temperatures and provides a zero waste experience by reusing the surplus for future pieces. In the packaging, printed only with an ink, the use of adhesive is eliminated since all the joints are made by clipping. The result is a packaging that is removable and flatpack. In the volumetry of the packaging, the width and depth are double the height, so maximum use of the storage space is obtained.
