Anarkali – Label Design

KunalPatel

The outcome is the label design for a premium vodka, inspired by the legendary story of Anarkali, a figure deeply embedded in the Indo-Islamic cultural narrative, known for her tragic love story with Prince Salim and her defiance against the oppressive forces of her time. This vodka is crafted to embody the rebellious spirit, strength, and complexity of Anarkali’s character—her defiance, elegance, and the tragic yet beautiful arc of her love and fate. The vodka is positioned as a premium product targeting young, modern consumers who are drawn to stories of resistance, individuality, and boldness, wrapped in a contemporary aesthetic.

The label design uses a duotone palette of red and black, symbolizing Anarkali’s passionate defiance and boldness. Red represents her courage and rebellion, while black evokes mystery and tragedy. Drawing on Art Deco influences, the design incorporates geometric shapes and clean lines, blending vintage elegance with modern aesthetics. The contemporary typography is paired with traditional illustration, striking a balance between the past and present. A key element, the red pepper border, subtly hints at the spiciness of the vodka, while also alluding to Anarkali’s fiery spirit. The eye symbol refers to the myth of Anarkali still peeping through a hole in her tomb, signifying her undying presence. Lastly, the crow, acting as a storyteller, carries the weight of the narrative, representing the figure who has witnessed and passed down the legend. This design blends timeless storytelling with modern sensibility, creating a compelling and immersive experience for the consumer.
