These products are part of the Six Virtues logo suite and packaging design project at Ball State University. I was tasked with creating a logo suite for the brand “Six Virtues”, along with four sub-brands, which were determined by selecting four of the six virtues to turn into sub-brands. I focused my sub-branding on various camping and outdoor products, which I then designed individual packaging for each product. These products consist of a sleeping bag, a utility knife, and a flashlight. While designing the logo suite, I used the same shape components across the parent logo and each sub-brand, creating a visually unified look shared across all the logos. I wanted each logo to resemble an “acheivement badge” to promote encouragement for trying new things, which is the goal of the Six Virtues brand.
My goal for this project was to create a sustainable packaging design that encourages and supports exploration and curiosity of the outdoors. I wanted to give the packaging a dual purpose, which I achieved by including symbolic elements found within a map, including a compass and various geograhical symbols such as path and river visuals. I also used the components of the parent logo to create a pattern found on each packaging design, creating a cohesive visual consistency throughout all the products.
Overall, I wanted to make the concept of camping feel less overwhelming to a new audience of outdoor explorers by approaching my design using simple shapes and icons, which simplify the learning experience of camping and make it enjoyable rather than intimidating.
