MÍVES PASTA PACKAGING

TASK:

We had to design a line of products for a Hungarian pasta company by renewing the current brand identity and coming up with a new way of packaging the products.

IDEA:

I wanted to go with a totally environmentally friendly packaging. The current packaging of the MÍVES company already minimizes the usage of unrecyclable materials, still it uses plastic as the main wrapper. I thought that a paper box packaging would be more eco-friendly and more efficient in the handling of the pasta than a basic plastic bag. Moreover, I wanted to incorporate a built-in “portioning spoon” to give a secondary function for the top of the box. As the last touch, I aimed to omit the usage of any gluing in this project.

CONSTRUCTION:

The main component of the packaging is the box with a pasta shaped window on the side to indicate the product type. The bottom is completed with a self-closing system and the sides are also shut by a non-glue closing. This is also true for the closing of the top which can be folded into the so-called “portioning spoon”. It can contain 100 g of pasta and this divides the 500g box into 5 equal quantities. The cover is also fixed by a little flap on both sides of the main box.

PAPER TYPE:

I selected “CRUSH CORN” which is an environmentally friendly paper containing organic plant fibres. It is also 30% made up from recycled components and was produced with renewable energy making it a sustainably elegant choice. The top is basic heavyweight offset paper treated and coated with a matt foil layer as it would mainly be used in a kitchen environment. In my opinion, these papers complement each other well.
