ΤΙΤΥΡΟΣ

Tityrus (Latin) is borrowed from Ancient Greek Τίτυρος, the Doric form of Σάτυρος (Satyros).

According to Greek mythology, Satyrs were companions of the god Dionysus, known for their love for wine, music, dancing, and women. Over the course of history, satyrs gradually became portrayed as more human and less bestial. They began to acquire goat-like characteristics, as a result of conflation with the god Pan. Since the Renaissance, satyrs have been most often represented with the legs and horns of goats.
