Honig-Manufaktur WFC – Branding & Packaging Design

ABOUT

The Honig-Manufaktur WFC is a small and charming urban beekeeping initiative located in the heart of Augsburg, Germany. What started as a private passion has evolved into a sustainable small-scale producer of high-quality honey in 2024. The honey is only produced in limited quantities, with quality and animal welfare taking top priority.

CONCEPT

The goal was to create a holistic design that not only reflects the values of the Honig-Manufaktur WFC at first glance but also stands out as a unique eye-catcher on store shelves. With a thoroughly thought-out, strategic branding and packaging concept, the brand was brought to life. It presents itself as authentic and sustainable “at first sight.” The slogan “We’re buzzing for honey” perfectly encapsulates its core message – for beekeepers, bees, and customers alike.

SOLUTION

  1. Honey Jar: The honey is packaged in slim, round, and aesthetically pleasing jars whose rounded lower shape highlights the silky-soft and creamy texture of the honey.
  2. Lid: The matte black aluminium lid adds a premium touch to the packaging concept and provides a striking contrast to the golden color of the honey.
  3. Labels: The labels are made from Silphie paper – a sustainable, resource-saving material that stands out for its unique texture.
  4. Design Elements: The hand-drawn illustration of a flower symbolizes the source of nectar and pollen – the bees’ food source and the key feature of their diverse habitat, located in a beekeeping orchard association.
  5. Seedbombs: As a special addition, every jar comes with a “Seedbomb” that actively involves customers. By planting or scattering the Seedbomb, they help create new food sources for bees.

WHAT MAKES THE DESIGN UNIQUE?

  1. Sustainability: The use of Silphie paper sets new standards for eco-friendly packaging materials.
  2. Elegance: The combination of slim jars and a matte black lid conveys a sense of premium quality and modernity.
  3. Interactive Elements: The Seedbombs allow customers to actively contribute to creating new food sources for bees.
  4. Storytelling: The labels, with their natural aesthetic and hand-drawn illustrations, tell the journey from nectar to finished honey.

RESULTS

The branding and packaging concept of the Honig-Manufaktur WFC outshines the competition and stands strong with a powerful brand identity. The Seedbombs have become an emotional highlight, fostering a sense of community and inviting customers to actively contribute to the creation of new food sources. All in all: no plastic needed!

SHIPPING PACKAGING AS AN EXTENSION

In addition to the classic product packaging, the jar, an innovative shipping box was also developed. This allows for the safe shipping of honey jars in pairs and continues the storytelling experience:

  • Unboxing Experience: The packaging is designed to reflect the brand both inside and out and provides exciting information about bees.
  • Design with Added Value: A honeycomb-shaped cutout in the inlay aesthetically displays the jars and ensures a cohesive overall concept. After unboxing, the packaging can be reused as a practical storage box.

The holistic packaging design – from the jar to the shipping box – establishes Honig-Manufaktur WFC as a strong brand from the outset, uniquely combining sustainability, regionality, and quality.
