Simi Mama and her daughter are small Hungarian producers of jams, chutneys and juices. They sell their products at the local market on a tabletop where customers see the top of the jars. Therefore in my design, the jars are tilted backward, so the natural, bright colors of the jams are more in the line of sight of the customers. This design also creates space at the bottom of the packaging. I used this space to create a small drawer into which I placed a small taster from Simi Mama’s special product, grape seed flour with honey. The jams are sugar free and sweetened with honey, making this a triple pack with honey-flavored products.
It was important to use recyclable materials for the packaging, so I used paper, glass and natural adhesive. The two ends of the packaging can be slid outwards. I placed the label on the back of the jars, with just a strip of the products’ names on the front, so that the color of the product remains clearly visible. Most of Simi Mama’s products are made from two fruits, so I designed pictograms with right-angled corners so they can be placed next to each other to form a combined shape. Another important element is the leaf shape in the logo, which defines the shape of the business cards, leaflets and the display window curves.
