“Mil complementos” is a brand name for a collection of gourmet sauces, dressings, spiced salts, and jams created by Chef Caro Luna. Our task was to develop the brand name, graphic design, and labeling for the glass containers used in the product packaging, which were provided by the Chef.
We chose the name “A Thousand Complements (Espanish Mil Complemento)” because it perfectly describes the collection of traditional Mexican sauces, dressings, and jams being marketed—each one a perfect complement to dishes, meats, or traditional Mexican food. A Thousand Complements is that special “touch” that enhances meals, snacks, tacos, soups, salads, or anything else that could use a sauce or dressing, creating a flavorful tasting experience for diners.
We developed a visual identity with a modern style inspired by traditional Mexican gastronomy. The label was designed in a triangular shape to showcase the sauces and highlight the vibrant colors of the product blends. This also helped us create a distinctive design that stands out from other sauce packaging available in the local market.
Additionally, we paired the sauces with a brand voice inspired by colloquial Mexican phrases and proverbs, particularly those related to food. One example is “Barriga llena, corazón contento,” which translates to: “A full belly, a happy heart.” This saying reflects how hunger can make a person irritable and moody, but after enjoying a satisfying meal, they feel happy and content.
The final result is a unique identity with a contemporary design that celebrates Mexican sauces and complements, featuring cost-effective, attractive, and traditional packaging that embodies the essence of Mexican cuisine.
