Simi Mama Birtoka is a family business producing organic products. Mainly jams, chutneys, fruit juices and grape seed grinds. It is very important to them that the products should reflect the love of home and the grandmother, while at the same time giving a premium feel.
During the project, I designed new packaging for their juices. They originally had a bag in the box packaging, which I didn’t find suitable. I decided to change to a tetrapack packaging method. The design is based on two important elements. The first is the inspiration of the motifs of the local folk costume, which is Kalocsai, from this the basic shapes of the small fruit and vegetable patterns were made. The second is the clean lines, with them I wanted to give a premium effect. The shape of the product has an exciting twist, which not only adds to its aesthetic value, but also provides a great grip. I made the top of the box slanted, which helps to pour the product to the last drop. The colours are inspired by the main ingredient, grapes. I used the same colours on all the elements, with the flavours visually differentiated by a pattern on the bottom of the box showing the vegetables and fruits inside.
The packaging also includes a leaflet to hand out at tastings. Most of the target audience are families visiting the market, so a small booklet with playful pop up elements seemed the best way to attract the children’s interest.
For the box, I chose Keaykolour Original – China White paper, the colour of which matched perfectly with one of the colours I had in my mind. The boxes are available in three different sizes: 1l, 0,5l and 2dl. I designed the latter with a straw design.
