Book design: The Master and Margarita

The cover of “The Master and Margarita” was inspired by the occult and religious themes that permeate the entire book. I aimed to give the dynamic, multi-threaded, and time-spanning story a rich visual style reminiscent of illuminated manuscripts. Recurring elements such as life and death, sanity and madness, are depicted through a Danse Macabre motif. In the background, the spires of Moscow’s cathedral can be seen, indicating the setting of the story.
