Eduard Limonov Book Series

Eduard Limonov is a Russian writer, poet, publicist, and political activist. He was one of the most controversial and colorful figures in contemporary Russian literature and political life. Emmanuel Carrère’s bestseller “Limonov” and the movie “Limonov: The Ballad” are based on his biography.

In 2021, the Alpina Proza publishing house began reprinting his most notable novels. I was tasked with designing the covers for the paperback editions.

Given that Limonov’s prose is semi-autobiographical, it was crucial for me to make the illustrations authentic. For instance, on the cover of “His Butler’s Story” the windows are the same shape as those in the actual house where Limonov worked during the time depicted in the novel. Similarly, the cover of “Ours Was a Great Epoch” features the street where the protagonist’s family lived after World War II.

I used a limited color palette, designing each cover to be printed in three vibrant Pantone colors.

Unfortunately, these paperbacks never made it to print, despite the covers being approved. I still hope that this series will be published someday.
