Zero Patient

ZERO Patient.

Living on autopilot has become the norm. The morning subway ride, the daily commute, work or study, and a drink in the evening to release the stress built up throughout the day. Beer to switch the day off. Sleep to switch the next one on. At some point, habit begins to make our choices for us. We become zombies, surrounded by others just like us.

In stories about epidemics, patient zero marks the beginning of a catastrophe. ZERO Patient turns this narrative around: our protagonist is the first to recover. Someone who breaks the chain and shows that the familiar course of events can be changed. ZERO brings together two meanings: zero alcohol and a new starting point.

A warning yellow background and black graphics create a sense of tension, evoking hazard labels and biohazard symbols. This combination draws the can into the world of the story before the name is even read. The oversized ZERO lettering was created by hand using a needle, a metaphor for vaccination. Its irregular, organic contours are enhanced by raised bubbles of tactile varnish. The letters resemble expanding living structures, as though a familiar word were undergoing a mutation. Their scale transforms the can’s surface into a graphic space in its own right.

The post-apocalyptic story of ZERO Patient moves in the opposite direction: from losing the ability to choose to reclaiming it.The first to recover becomes proof that the cycle can be broken. Their decision opens up the same possibility for the next person.ZERO Patient turns zero into a point from which change begins. Break the cycle. Start from zero.
