A-kela chips is a fictional snack brand offering homemade, fresh, thin & crispy banana chips by a small bakery called The Harsha bakery in Yelahanaka Town, Bangalore City, India. The Packaging is designed in such a way that it doesn’t lose its original identity and offer the same vibe when you have these savories from one of the oldest bakeries in Yelahanka Town.

Kela translates to Banana in English, So the brand A-kela chips simply mean ‘A-Banana’ chips. The brand is designed to be simple yet unique, sweet & direct. I wanted the packaging to portray the same as well.

The packaging is having the essence of its key ingredient – A banana. Each side is a different color showing a banana’s different stages of ripening. Each face of the packaging has the character of the ‘common man’ illustrated by the legend R.K. Laxman. I tweaked the illustration trying to portray a story that revolves around A-kela chips and their ads in the newspaper. I chose the illustration ‘common man’ because banana chips are a go-to snack for every household or every common man across south India!

What’s Unique?
A-kela chips come in a stand-up packaging which peels off just like a banana. It’s a multilingual packaging presented in English as well as Kannada – the language spoken in Bangalore City – for maximum reach to Local audiences in and around the town.
