Pinocchio bookcover

The story of Pinocchio is usually told in the form of a fairy tale despite the fact that the author Carlo Collodi originally intended the story, published in 1881, as a tragedy. Pinocchio’s bad behaviour rather than being charming or kind serves as a warning and ends with the execution of the puppet. I have chosen this original story and atmosphere as the basis for my cover design and by combining manual and digital techniques I hope to create a disturbing, slightly disconcerting visual effect that is worthy of the story.
