Côte West focuses on distinct vineyard sites with unique weather patterns, terrain, and soils that lend themselves to excellent wine.

Classically-trained in old-world winemaking in France, the winemaker and owner now combines that experience with the innovation of new-world California principles at their urban winery located in Oakland, California. Coterra, their newest label and expression of these methods, expands their growing brand by focusing on innovative natural winemaking. The contrasting black and white labels abstractly depict the serendipitous alchemy that exists when a combination of the elements, the fruit and the winemaker exist together to create the wild and unexpected.

The result creates an instantly recognizable presence on the shelf that allows the brand to stand apart amongst other rule-breaking labels within the natural wine category.

POTW Curator’s Insight

Those black and white patterns are more than just patterns. I feel like they are the whispers of the winemaker’s craft, reminiscent of hand-crafted linocut art – about channeling the hands-on artistry of the winemaking process into the visual identity.
