Póvoa de Cambas is a remote schist village nestled in the mountains near Oleiros, Portugal. In the surrounding valleys, Arbutus Unedo trees grow in abundance, many of them wild. For generations, the local community has harvested their fruit, medronho, to produce a traditional spirit, slowly distilled in copper stills inside an old stone cellar carved into the rock.
For this project, the producers made clear that they did NOT want to create a brand. The goal was simply to design a technical label that would identify the liquid inside the bottle, nothing more.
The design uses subtle typography and restrained visual elements, with the purpose of respecting the artisanal process and the authenticity of a product that is NOT meant to be marketed or promoted. This is not a visual identity, but a sticker label that quietly states where the spirit comes from.
