My name is Benjamin Smith and this was my first exclusive packaging project I have done in my college career. This project featured redesigning a spinoff series from an established brand, however, it snowballed into a much more defined and unique standalone series. KINTSUGI is a kombucha brand based on rebuilding and reforming, with a scope centered on the Japanese art of kintsugi pottery. The art of kintsugi features repairing broken ceramics with a tinted binder to create something better than how it was before, typically using gold or silver to highlight the cracks to show the beauty of imperfection.
The challenge of standing out in a really established place was a huge challenge, and my progress from mockup to final product are night and day, but I am really happy with the changes I made and the direction that I went with. Prior to this project, I had no experience working with 3 dimentional labels or ideation (most of my work had been for graphics applied to 2D medias), but I do think this project pushed me further for polishing a defined project that was strong on its own physically taking up space.
