Amala Natural Hand Soap is a soap project based on the principles of Ayurvedic medicine. The word “Amala” means clean, pure, spotless, and stainless in the Sanskrit language. It also shares its name with the Indian gooseberry, known for its rejuvenating and revitalizing properties. Indian gooseberries are commonly used as a healing agent in ancient practices, so bar No. 1 is simply named “Original Gooseberry,” as a nod to that history. Bar No. 2 is called “Blueberry Willow bark,” which is cooling, stabilizing and calming, crafted to balance the Pitta dosha. Bar No. 3, “Lavender Honey,” is meant to be relaxing, grounding, and hydrating, which balances the Vata dosha. Finally, Bar No. 4 is “Pomegranate Hibiscus,” which has uplifting, awakening, and drying properties, crafted to balance the Kapha dosha. Anyone can choose a bar based on how they are feeling, or keep the complete collection of four on hand. The packaging features whimsical, calming illustrations, and a light color palate. The fibrous banana paper that makes up the label displays all of the information about the soap in a clean, contained way. All of these aspects make this packaging easy to grasp and digest, suggestive of a successful, healthy brand.

What’s Unique?
The most unique part of Amala Natural Hand Soap is the individual bar’s outer box system. The outer box that a bar comes in can double as a carrying case for travel, or to simply act as an appealing soap holder on the bathroom counter. The plastic coating on this collapsable “box in a box” makes it completely waterproof, and can be used time and time again. Featured inside each outer box is a complementary hand towel, which the soap bar is neatly tucked into upon opening. The box opens and closes by folding the flap of one side into the pockets on the roof of the other side, so it opens and closes with ease for a delightful user experience.
