ABOUT
This project marries technology with nostalgia, aiming to infuse the everyday USB hub with the essence of a missile silo launch control panel. Inspired by the complex world of missile launch systems, I sought to challenge the divide between military-grade control systems and consumer electronics. My goal was to shatter this stereotype, pushing the boundaries of design in the same way architects redefine the limits of form and function. I wanted to create a Taiwanese product marketed to Asia and to the United States via Temu. I felt this product was better suited to Asia, coming from Taiwan.
SOLUTION
I envisioned a design that elevates the USB hub beyond its utilitarian roots, combining it with the intricate interface of a missile launch control panel. This design choice goes beyond aesthetics, incorporating a functional segmented display for various updates, from weather to USB port usage. It’s a tribute to the precision of missile silo interfaces, reinterpreted for daily use. The packaging isn’t just protective but part of the story, prepping users for the concept before their first interaction.
RESULT
The outcome is a memorable product and packaging, breaking through conventional design boundaries to spark conversations and challenge perceptions of a USB hub’s potential. This design emphasizes both form and function, with detailed packaging that reflects the project’s ethos. It stands as a testament to creative and innovative design, a piece that commands attention like a significant architectural work or a vintage wine, unforgettable upon discovery.
