Nissin Food Products Co., Ltd. is a Japanese food company that specializes in the production and sale of convenience food and instant noodles. Their cup noodles have been around for decades and it’s time they spice up their packaging. When it comes to instant food, packaging plays the most important role in attracting a customer.

Problems with the current packaging:-

  • Often the lid doesn’t get torn properly and hence causes the issue to reseal the pack for cooking the noodles.
  • It is difficult to judge the required water level at times.
  • A lot of people find the given fork inconvenient to use.
  • Considering it’s a product to be consumed on the go, there is no place to keep the fork while the noodles are getting cooked.
  • The colour of the cup isn’t very relatable with noodles.

The design strategy behind the revamped packaging was to develop the packaging for a new series of cup noodles for Nissin by having appealing graphics which the Indian youngsters can connect to. Fusion food is trending all over right now and so here’s a twist to your regular cup noodles. Considered that cup noodles are often consumed by youngsters, the cup is designed keeping in mind that they have a very busy and fast-paced lifestyle.

The theme for this new range is inspired by the food flavours of different regions of India.
Flavours in the new series

  • Tandoori from the North
  • Chettinad from the South
  • Thukpa from the East
  • Chatpata from the West

This cup retains the joy of having cup noodles and makes the experience even better. Apart from the lip-smacking flavours which are the favourites of youngsters, this cup has various new features that were never seen in Indian cup noodles before.

  • It has a permanent lid for better sealing. It’s made from plastic which can be washed and re-used for future purposes.
  • The translucent plastic makes the water line easily visible.
  • This cup has a ‘Spork’ which can be used as a fork to have noodles and a spoon to have the curry along. So no need to worry about the curry that earlier used to be difficult to consume.
  • Amongst all that detailed information that is there on the sticker, we usually only look at some important details concerning us like the price, expiry date, etc. and often ignore the rest. However, these details are often spread all over the label and one has to keep looking for them. So this new label makes that task easier. All this information is sorted according to it’s relevance and need.
  • There’s even a holder for the fork so that you don’t need to hunt for a place to keep it anymore.
  • And lastly, a new section called ‘want to explore’ respective to each flavour can be seen on the label.
