Continuing a long-lasting partnership, Appartement 103 has created Cihuatan’a latest limited edition: Cihuatan Suerte.
The legend of Muwaan Mat, the Mayan god of luck, inspired this limited-edition rum. It pays homage to the Mayan tradition of filtering water using quartz crystals, which the Mayans believed had mystical powers.
According to the Mayan legend, when shooting stars would hit the earth, they would transform into quartz crystals. The ancient civilisation believed that by filtering water with these crystals, they could harness the power of Muwaan Mat and bring good luck to their lives. Not only did this practice have spiritual significance, but it also had a scientific basis, as quartz crystals are known to purify water and give it a pleasant flavor.
From this legend, Cihuatan’s master distiller crafted this limited edition by using quartz-filtered water, offering a distinctive rum flavour profile.
The design presentation follows the same high level of details, boasting embossings and hot foil stamping to elevate the story through beautifully crafted illustration. Respecting the iconic Cihuatan graphic style, Appartement 103 drew the label illustration with hidden elements to convey the legend of Muwaan Mat. Adding a sense of discovery, consumers can find the shooting star and crystals on the label, directly connecting to this enchanting legend.
Curator’s Insight
I’m always impressed by brands that go beyond just slapping a logo on a bottle. Cihuatan Suerte is a masterclass in storytelling through design. The Mayan legend, the use of quartz-filtered water, and the intricate packaging all come together to create a truly immersive experience.
The packaging itself is a treasure trove of Mayan mystique. Embossings and hot foil stamping create a tactile experience, inviting you to run your fingers over the intricate illustrations. Speaking of illustrations, Appartement 103 stayed true to Cihuatan’s signature graphic style, but with a playful twist. Hidden within the design are subtle nods to the Muwaan Mat legend, like a shooting star streaking across the label and sparkling quartz crystals nestled among the Mayan motifs
