A Packaging Design with Playful Pull Power!

This “Pull It Hand Pulled Noodles” design concept by Soh Kah Khee, a student from Lasalle College of The Arts, is a real award-winner (ASPaC Awards Gold Award!), and for good reason! It’s not your average noodle box.

Here’s what makes it stand out:

Interactive Fun: Unlike most packaging that’s just a passive container, “Pull It” lets you be the noodle master! The accordion-like design stretches and compresses just like a real noodle master would work the dough. It’s a fun way to engage with the product before you even cook it.

Hidden Reveal: As you pull the package, a window expands, showing the noodles transforming from a clump to long, beautiful strands. It’s like watching the magic of noodle-making happen right before your eyes!

Playful Graphics: The packaging isn’t just functional, it’s fun! The hand graphic on the front extends into the handle, making it feel like you’re actually pulling the noodles yourself. On the back, a quirky character enjoys a bowl of noodles, with the length of the noodles increasing as you stretch the package – a playful touch!

Here’s what I think is especially clever:

  • Double Duty: The handle doubles as an extension of the hand graphic, making the interaction even more intuitive.
  • Hidden Compartment: The outer sleeve could potentially hold additional information or cooking instructions, revealed only when you “pull” for the noodles.

Overall, this packaging is a delightful example of how design can be both functional and entertaining. It makes grabbing a pack of noodles an experience, not just a chore!

Some additional thoughts:

  • The use of multiple materials (paper, plastic, wood) adds textural interest.
  • It would be interesting to see if the packaging could be made more eco-friendly in the future, perhaps with a different type of handle or biodegradable materials.

I think “Pull It” is a fantastic example of creative packaging that elevates the product and creates a memorable experience for the consumer.
