This pastry brand was created by designer Qi Shuwei and is named “Diaohua Pu”. The term “Diaohua” in Chinese symbolizes craftsmanship and refined artisanal skill. Its inspiration comes from traditional Chinese floral-shaped pastries. In the past, people often shaped pastries to resemble apricot blossoms or osmanthus flowers, creating striking visual beauty—hence the name “Diaohua Pu.”
Another story took place in 2022. In order to warmly host an upcoming client, Qi Shuwei specially prepared pastries from a well-known Beijing brand to be served at the table. Unexpectedly, after the client took a bite, the atmosphere suddenly became tense. This may have made the client feel undervalued, ultimately leading to the loss of a deal worth millions of dollars in an awkward setting. The incident lingered heavily on Qi Shuwei’s mind.
One day, he happened to discover a gentleman’s pastry that was completely different from the dry, ordinary pastries commonly seen. These pastries were crafted by a master pastry chef whose own teacher had once been a royal pastry chef serving the emperor in Beijing. The master now lives in Chengde, approximately 200 kilometers away. Qi Shuwei and his team made several trips to Chengde to invite the master to join them, and the master passed on exquisite pastry techniques that had been preserved for over 300 years.
The extraordinary taste moved Qi Shuwei to tears—due to high costs, this flavor had nearly disappeared in Beijing. He decided to bring these delicacies back to Beijing, allowing more people to once again experience authentic royal flavors.
Qi Shuwei carefully selected six exquisite pastries and placed them in a wooden box, creating a gift set named “Spring of Rehe”, commemorating the most breathtaking scenery on the outskirts of Beijing. The gift box is wrapped in a square cloth adorned with intricate patterns, inviting you to witness the stunning beauty of this thousand-year-old capital.
Another square cloth features an illustration of an ancient Chinese story—“Zhong Kui Marries Off His Sister.” According to legend, Zhong Kui is a powerful deity capable of subduing demons and evil spirits. Though fierce in appearance, he is gentle at heart, devoted to protecting his family and constantly watching over his lonely younger sister. This story has been adapted into various visual forms and widely circulated among the people, reflecting a deep longing for family unity, happiness, and love.
