Legend has it that one day a pastor from Absintia (present-day Ethiopia) named Kaldi decided to bring to a known monk the fruit of a plant that he said made the flock happy and willing when they ate it. The intrigued monk decided to try an infusion of those reddish yellow fruits and realized that the infusion of the fruits really helped him stay awake during his meditations. Since its consumption in Arab countries in the fifteenth century, coffee has assumed the role of social drink ingested in cafes that, before appearing in Europe, were described in similar taverns. There you could drink, talk and find out about the news. Thus, coffee was not only popular for taste but for the practices and ideas linked to its consumption.
The world’s first cafeteria appeared in Constantinople in 1475, towards the end of the medieval era. The roasting of the beans was inaugurated at this time and, since then, the establishments for coffee consumption have not stopped growing. These sites soon spread throughout Europe during the 16th century. The term Condado refers to the territory of the medieval periods. And when we speak of valley, we are referring to the union. Thus was born Condado – Café do Vale in the city of Joaçaba / SC (Brazil), uniting people and adding moments, guided by a good dose of coffee in a pleasant and hospitable environment.
