Jacobus de Wet, the Comeback King, as he was known, was my great-grandfather and this is his story. He always had a ‘glass half full’ attitude towards business. Despite many setbacks he always picked himself up and carried on. Jacobus farmed through a very turbulent period in South Africa’s history. His career started fantastically, where he made a fortune from farming with ostriches. With the fortune he made, he built a manor house, which became known locally as the “Feather Palace”.
